The fourth time was the charm for veteran Sakio Bika, as he outlasted Marco Antonio Periban for the vacant WBC super middleweight title, winning a 12 round majority decision to become a world champion after three failed tries against Joe Calzaghe, Lucian Bute, and Andre Ward.

The Contender Season 3 Winner
In a grueling, non-stop action battle, Sakio Bika outlasted Jaidon Codrington, scoring a TKO at 2:18 of the eighth round to win the third-season finale of "The Contender" and the $750,000 grand prize on Tuesday night at TD Banknorth Garden.
"That was almost something out of a Rocky movie," said promoter Lou DiBella, who handles Codrington along with The Tournament of Contenders. "The kid [Codrington] is hanging his head now but he should be proud. They should both be proud. They proved everything you can prove. Both those guys proved their mettle. It was a Rocky movie. It was sick."
OPBF Middleweight Title
Sakio won the vacant OPBF Middleweight title in Japan October 2004 and defended the title successfully November 2005. The Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation is the regional feeder body for the World Boxing Council (WBC).
Australian Middleweight Title
Sakio won the vacant Australian Middleweight title April 2003 and defended the title successfully three times before having to forfeit the belt to fight for the vacant OPBF Middleweight title in Japan.
New South Wales Middleweight Title
Sakio won the New South Wales Middleweight tile in his 7th professional fight February 2002.
